We will never stop reminding you that, whether we are facing a deadly pandemic like the current coronavirus or just battling the regular flu season, it is important to take preventative and hygiene measures that boost the immune system. We provide a lot of tips and suggestions with concrete steps that you can put into practice daily, and we will continue to do so! That’s our promise. Let us share with you this excellent recipe for an infusion or ‘tea’ that improves your immune system. It's truly a super tea!
1 bowl or 2 cups of hot water
1 herbal infuser (or cloth bag for herbs)
4 fresh basil leaves or 1/3 teaspoon of dried basil
1/4 teaspoon powdered licorice root
1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 capsule of Ashwagandha Santo Remedio
1 capsule Turmeric Santo Remedio
1 capsule of Echinacea Santo Remedio
1 teaspoon of raw honey
Put the basil leaves in a large cup or container and all other ingredients in the infuser, bag or cloth you have at hand. This is to prevent the powder from irritating your throat when you drink the infusion. Place the infuser inside the cup of basil. Add the hot water and let it steep for a few minutes. Pour a cup and sweeten with honey. You can drink one or two cups a day, adding water to soften the taste if necessary.
Why these ingredients?
These ingredients have all been traditionally used for thousands of years, while today’s science has proven that they support and reinforce the immune system in different ways:
Basil, for example, has been shown to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective and immunomodulatory properties, among others. In fact, there is research that suggests it assists clinical treatment of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome and psychological stress. These are all linked to the body’s immune response.
There are studies that show licorice infusion stimulates the activation of lymphocytes, mainly T-cells, that are responsible for eliminating pathogens.
Fennel seeds, on the other hand, have been shown to have significant anti-inflammatory effects that can benefit the respiratory system.
Raw honey in moderate amounts has antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, among others. According to several studies, it helps treat respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous system issues.
Echinacea, part of our Supercharge Your Immune System package, fights infections (including respiratory) and decreases inflammation within the body.
Turmeric also decreases inflammation, which is a starting point for diseases that are risk factors to the coronavirus.
Ashwagandha helps us manage stress that otherwise directly impacts our immune system. It also helps improve mood, a critical aspect of responding to viral threats and diseases.
Sip by sip, and with the right ingredients, we can all empower our immune system.
Let's be healthier, together!
