Rejuvenate Your Skin Using Hibiscus Flower

The hibiscus or Jamaica flower is a special type of flower that, aside from adorning the world with a simple and exotic beauty, never ceases to amaze by providing multiple benefits. Its history of use is long-standing, spanning from East to West in countries as diverse as China, Egypt, Thailand, or Mexico (1). There are many names for typical beverages made with this flower, like teas that take advantage of its slightly citric flavor and infinite good properties. Surely, you’ve enjoyed a trendy summer drink in a millennial coffee shop made with hibiscus flower, and you did well in choosing it!

Few people understand its benefits, and how the hibiscus flower provides many of its properties through ingestion or topically. That’s right! So, we want to share with you a simple mask that you can make at home using hibiscus tea. Simple, easy, economical, and with proven skin benefits.

Hibiscus tea mask to help reduce wrinkles and improve skin

INGREDIENTS (for 1 or 2 applications):

  • Jamaica or hibiscus flower tea (2 sachets)

  • 1 ½ cups water

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 1 silicone face brush

  • 1 cotton ball

Directions:

Place the tea bags in a small pot and cover with the water. Let boil for a couple of minutes and turn off to allow to cool. Once cooled, remove the bags and carefully open them, adding the tea to a blender. Mix in a third of the water the tea steeped in, and blend well until very smooth. Place the cornstarch in a cup and add half of the water that is left, little by little, and mix until creamy. Now you can add the ground hibiscus tea and honey. Stir until it forms a thick cream. Apply this cream to your face with the silicone brush, paying special attention to the areas with more expression lines. Apply the cream to the neck and chest, also. Leave it on for about twenty minutes or until dry. Rinse with warm water to remove. Once your face is clean, apply the remaining unmixed tea water to your face with a cotton ball like a toner. Leave it on overnight. If you have any leftover tea, store in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator to use as a toner in the following days.

What does it do for my skin?

  • It is a natural exfoliant, which helps remove dead skin cells.

  • It has astringent capacity for drying and eliminating pimples.

  • Reduces skin inflammation.

  • It is an antioxidant that helps regenerate skin cells, preventing wrinkles.

How does it work?

  • In addition to all the benefits of honey and cornstarch, the hibiscus flower has shown numerous pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which contribute to the health, quality, and structure of the skin. (2)

  • The sour taste of hibiscus flower is not accidental. It is produced by several types of organic acids, among them citric acid, which contains ascorbic acid or vitamin C. This vitamin stimulates the increase of fibroblasts, which are the connective tissue cells that produce collagen proteins, indispensable for skin regeneration. (3)

  • Research has shown that the tradition of using hibiscus tea is not a coincidence. It helps fight the effects of free radicals, and one study proved for the first time that its antioxidant capacity helps maintain collagen production and decrease melanin synthesis under UVB radiation, which translates into anti-aging effects. (4, 5)

In addition to enjoying all the inner body benefits this delicious tea provides from drinking it, you can use it doubly and be radiant on the outside.

Let's be healthier and younger, together.
