The Benefits of Baking Soda
Sodium Bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, is a trusted home remedy that our fearless founder Dr. Juan highlighted in his bestselling book, Santo Remedio.
But exactly what does it help and how is it best used? With a little help from Dr. Juan (see below), let’s go over 5 of the best ways to use baking soda for natural healing.
To Fight Arthritis
Studies have shown that taking baking soda helps fight chronic inflammation by promoting a more balanced inflammatory response in the body. This is big news as inflammation is a major cause and contributor to arthritis pain.
An influential study showed that In certain individuals with kidney troubles, specifically kidney disease, simply taking baking soda helped slow the progression of the disease and improved organ function. While this might not be big news if your kidneys are healthy and working well, it is certainly good news for those of us who might be struggling with kidney health.
Baking soda helps counteract the acid of an upset stomach, and can even help during heartburn. A good recipe from Dr. Juan is to take a liter of water, mix in a couple tablespoons of baking soda, and a splash of lemon. Sip your way to a calmer stomach!
More Exercise Endurance
When we work out we feel a burning sensation in our muscles that often makes us stop. This is lactic acid. Studies have shown that taking baking soda before a workout can limit the production of lactic acid, and potentially help us workout longer and harder. That’s good news if you like to “go hard”.
Fight Bad Breath
Here’s another home remedy that has been in use for decades. Gargle with a little water and baking soda to reduce bad breath and keep your mouth feeling clean.
Important to Remember
Too much of a good thing is often a bad thing, and that’s the case with baking soda. It’s possible to take too much and cause damage to your body. Always consult with your personal physician before you start supplementing with baking soda, and start slow by not taking more than one or two tablespoons a day.
